The Maacca state legislative assembly today approved the Members of the Administration and the Legislative Assembly (Remuneration)(Amendment) Enactment 2015 which sees the state assemblypersons’ allowance raised by 12.5 percent to RM9,000 monthly effective last Jan 1.

The Bill was tabled by Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang) and seconded by Transport and Project Rehabilitation Committee chairperson Lim Ban Hong (BN-Klebang).

When tabling the Bill, Idris said the enactment involved a raise in the chief minister’s allowance from RM14,175.15 to RM15,000 and state executive council members from RM6,109.29 to RM7,000 monthly.

He said it also involved the allowance for the speaker of the Malacca legislative assembly who was not appointed from among the assemblypersons from RM6,109.29 to RM8,000, while for the speaker from among the assemblypersons enjoyed a raise of RM7,000 per month.

He said the Malacca deputy speaker also received an allowance raise from RM2,662 to RM3,000.

Idris said the raise also involved 106 retired Malacca state assemblypersons who would receive a raise based on the number of years that they served.

The monetary implication needed to finance the raise in allowance and remuneration would involved an additional allocation of over RM2 million annually, he said.

The Bill was later approved and Malacca state assembly speaker Othman Muhamad adjourned the sitting to tomorrow.
