Rahman Dahlan: We can't blame Nur Jazlan

Nur Jazlan Mohamad's ambition to rise up the political ladder cannot be denied, said BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

In a press release today, Abdul Rahman ( photo ) said Nur Jazlan had been denied a position in cabinet six times since 2004.

"The question that begs to be answered, is it fair to deny him the opportunity to advance his political career for the seventh time?

"We may be foolish enough to say 'yes' because we are more interested to see him serving our interest rather than his own.

"But for him, the answer is obviously quite the opposite. And we honestly can't blame him for thinking that way," said Abdul Rahman.

Abdul Rahman said Nur Jazlan's supporters and constituents have complained that the latter was "languishing" in his political career as he had been on the PAC for eight years.

Family legacy

Moreover, said Abdul Rahman, Nur Jazlan was born into a political family and that the latter's father was once a cabinet minister and secretary-general to Umno.

"Political blood runs deep in his veins. Thus, one would assume, given his family's illustrious career in politics, the continuation of the legacy of his father is important both to him, his family and his constituents.

"But after all, to honestly sum it up, it is a dream of every MP to be able to serve his or her country. What better way to do that than becoming one of the cabinet members as ministers or deputy ministers?" asked Abdul Rahman.

Nur Jazlan was made deputy home minister on Tuesday in a major cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

His appointment meant that he had to vacate his position as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson while its probe on 1MDB was ongoing.

Three other BN MPs in the PAC were also made either cabinet minister or deputy ministers.

Critics claim that the elevation was specifically designed to frustrate the bi-partisan committee's investigation process, as a new chairperson will only be appointed in October.
