Gerakan youth leader’s stand on 1MDB lauded

YOURSAY ‘Why are leaders Mah Siew Keong and Tan Keng Liang keeping quiet?’

'1MDB probes no longer trustworthy'

J Ng: It appears the only 'not so smart guy' from the non-Umno BN component parties is Gerakan deputy youth chairperson Andy Yong.

All the other top party leaderships are happily adopting the ‘silence is golden’ rule. MCA, in particular, will vouch that this rule can be rewarding as seen from the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Hopefully, the next spin to absolve Jho Low's involvement is not going to be giving him credit in getting donation from these Arab tycoons.

Since the amount is so huge, the inspector-general of police (IGP) should investigate whether these Arabs are working in concert with ‘orang putih’?

Steven Goh: Gerakan dispatches an unknown person to issue this statement. Why are party president Mah Siew Keong and Youth chief Tan Keng Liang keeping quiet?

This kind of statement doesn't count for much. Gerakan is still accountable as it is part of the BN government. Your president is still in the cabinet. Enough of drama.

Helen: Finally, someone with a sense of integrity and honour from Gerakan makes a public stand.

Will more BN leaders speak up and be counted please? Shame on you, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

Mosquitobrain: Premier Najib Abdul Razak can keep playing dumb while his proxies can keep spinning.

We do not need a task force or royal commission of inquiry (RCI). We need honourable people to tell the people the truth on 1MDB and save Malaysia and its people from further suffering.

Anonymous 2316751437984500: I'm sure Najib will not betray the trust of the rakyat. More likely, the opposition leaders are becoming too obsessed with this issue.

Understandably, the MACC took some time to investigate this before clearing Najib of the RM2.6 billion, as they probably had to ask each and every contributor to confirm if it was indeed them who contributed the money.

Whether it is from one Middle East source as alleged by former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin in his suspiciously leaked 53-second video remains to be seen.

Touche: Does it mean it’s okay for me to hand money to the police and say ‘ini derma, bukan rasuah?’ (this is a donation, not a bribe).

Anonymous 2316821438162924: It is time that Malaysia joins the rest of the world and regulates all political funding.

If we want to know the donors of the RM2.6 billion, we will need to press all parties to show their list of donors too. Fair or not?

Ordinary Malaysians should now voice out to all political parties that they want every single party to do so.

Dont Just Talk: Yong has more grey matter in his brain than Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who proudly declared that the RM2.6 billion received in Najib's personal accounts was not a crime .

It is not a matter whether the money is from 1MDB or not. The fact that such a huge sum of US$700 million had gone into Najib's personal accounts smells fishy.

When civil servants or police officers can be charged in court for corruption and owning assets way beyond their means, Najib looks like he is above the law.

Yong must be prepared to apologise to the ‘1MDB cabinet’ for not toeing the line, i.e. to say that the RM2.6 billion came from donors, and it being credited into Najib’s private accounts is not a crime.

Headhunter: Now that MACC has confirmed that the money is donated, an RCI, even if all its members are from the opposition, would definitely clear Najib 100 percent.

Of course, he has to submit proof that the money was donated. MACC may not realise it, but its statement has vindicated both Sarawak Report and The Wall Street Journal . So who has been lying?

Anonymous #44199885: If the money was clean and there was no wrongdoing, the PM should have immediately issued a statement. But he did not, he still has not.

Instead we saw the AG sacked, the MACC harassed on dubious grounds of threat to parliamentary democracy (in fact, the arrest of the graft-busters, their adviser and AG personnel and veiled attacks on Bank Negara personnel are the real threats to parliamentary democracy - these are state institutions created under the federal constitution and laws).

Also the clear interruption to the PAC proceedings, the sacking of the DPM and a vice-president of Umno critical of the PM, are all signs of the dismantling of checks and balances in our democratic system.

If an offence under Section 124B has been committed, it has been by those who undertook, or authorised these tasks.

Negarawan: It will be a major blow to the credibility of the premier, MACC and Umno ministers when the US federal investigators release their report.

Bluemountains: Will Muhyiddin believe that the RM2.6 billion was indeed a donation? Why was the Umno deputy president not aware that there was such a huge donation?
