The police should not interfere with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into SRC International, urged former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said if the police wanted to investigate MACC about confidential information leaks, they should have done so discreetly.

"Meet the bosses, discuss it, do it properly and responsibly. Don't do it so openly," he said.

Speaking at the Pagoh Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings' general assembly today, Muhyiddin said police had their own task to do in the 1MDB probe, even though the special task force is now defunct.

"It's okay if the task force is no more, each agency has its own responsibility.

"The police, Bank Negara, MACC and attorney-general should be given complete freedom. Don’t meddle with them.

"People want to know the outcome of the investigation, whether it is good or bad," he said.

Grilled seven MACC officers

The police have grilled seven MACC officers and two people linked to the commission over leaks in the 1MDB probe.

The graftbuster's special operations director Bahri Mohamad Zain ( photo ) has vowed to search for those who gave the order.

Muhyiddin is believed to have been axed from the cabinet for being too critical of 1MDB.

However, he mostly avoided saying the name of the sovereign wealth fund in his speech today.

When he needed to mention it he would say, "About, what is it?", to which the delegates would reply "1MDB!"

"You said it, ladies and gentlemen, not me," he would then reply.
