'Prison restrictions mount for dad amid plot claim'
Following claims of a plot against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar claimed that prison authorities have imposed more restrictions on her father, Anwar Ibrahim.
Following claims of a plot against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar claimed that prison authorities have imposed more restrictions on her father, Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking to reporters, she said prison authorities attempted to prevent opposition figures such as Lim Kit Siang, Rafizi Ramli and Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali from approaching or even seeing Anwar during his court appearances.
"Meetings with his lawyers have also been reduced," she claimed, adding that his access to the prison library has also been curbed, forcing him to spend most of his time in the cell.
She also said family visits have been cut short while Anwar's written statements for the media are also restricted.
Anwar ( photo ), the former opposition leader, is serving a five-year prison term.
The alleged plot against the prime minister was revealed by newly minted number two Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The latter claimed an "ambitious old man" from Umno was seeking to form a unity government and push for a no-confidence vote against Najib.
Zahid has denied to name the individual, saying it would hamper police investigations.
Nurul Izzah also urged the government to be more sympathetic towards her father's health.
The Lembah Pantai MP said the former opposition leader's health was deteriorating and this had led to continued discomfort for him.
"We request that Anwar ( photo ) is allowed to be checked consistently and as soon as possible by a doctor chosen by the family.
"He must also be warded as soon as possible and be subject to physiotherapy as recommended by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital," she said.
Probe Rahman Dahlan
On another matter, Nurul Izzah wants BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan to be investigated for confirming the existence of a draft charge sheet against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"As a cabinet member, he must be investigated because he brings into question whether or not the draft charge sheet had existed or otherwise," she said.
In an interview with The Star Online , Abdul Rahman ( photo ) had reportedly said Najib had to 'take people out' when asked about the alleged draft charge sheet.
Yesterday, however, he denied confirming the existence of a charge sheet against Najib.
The alleged darft charge sheet published by whistleblower site Sarawak Report had accused Najib of receiving RM42 million from state-owned SRC International.
