Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad has been named as Gerakan Harapan Baharu (GHB) state chairperson at a launching ceremony of the movement at Dataran Shahbandar, Kuala Terengganu last night.

This development cleared the air over the position of Raja Kamarul Bahrin who has been quiet ever since Terengganu PAS decided to sever ties with him.

However, another state PAS leader, Batu Burok state assemblyperson Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi, who was said to be aligned with the Kuala Terengganu MP, was conspicuously missing at the event, which affirmed his claims that he was not involved with the movement.

Speaking to reporters after the announcement was made by former PAS central election director, Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli, Raja Kamarul Bahrin said he decided to accept the offer to lead Terengganu GHB as he was confident of the future of the movement.

"I feel, I am more needed in GHB as it is more inclusive... more encompassing of all parties," he said.

Apart from former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who is GHB chairperson, others present at the event were former PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub, Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, former PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa, former Perak PAS commissioner Ahmad Awang as well as singer Wan Aishah Wan Arifin.
