Uphold the Sarawak way, CM tells Bersih 4

The Sarawak government has given the green light for Bersih 4 to hold its planned assembly at the Song Kheng Hai field tomorrow.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has however advised the participants to uphold the Sarawak way of doing things - smoothly and peacefully.

He said the government had offered the Song Kheng Hai field and the State Stadium for Bersih organisers to hold the assembly, and they chose the Song Kheng Hai field.

He pointed out that the government gave the go-ahead after consulting Kuching South City Council (MBKS) upon receiving the request from the organisers.

Asked on the possibility of civil servants participating in the assembly, he said: “I leave it to the individuals concerned. If they get arrested, I don’t know... we will consider (the action) if it happens.”

Adenan was met at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Kuching today at the launch of the Merdeka Month celebration and ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign organised by the Chief Minister’s Office.

Asked about the coming state election date, in a jovial mood, Adenan said he was happy to have decided the date “but I will not tell you when”.

He said most of the Barisan Nasional candidates to be fielded for the state election had been finalised.
