With PR in the bag, no more 'explosive affidavit'

YOURSAY ‘As expected, the threat of filing an 'explosive affidavit' worked.’

With PR secure, sacked AG officer wants to move on with life

Caripasal: When Jessica Gurmeet Kaur was sacked from her job in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, she threatened to file an explosive affidavit.

Was she trying to achieve her personal agenda by using the media to garner support from Malaysians?

Now that she has achieved her objective in retaining her PR (permanent resident) status, she requested the media to respect her privacy.

Anonymous_1423808262: With her PR reinstated and no explosive affidavits, it’s a win-win deal.

I think Kaur in her situation has no choice. Her family comes first. What can one woman do against an evil behemoth?

She has decided rightly, and lives to fight another day. Smart lady.

Speechless: I am glad Kaur got back her PR and is now able to return to her family and her life.

She has gone through a lot: arrest, intimidation and awful rumours about her which have not been substantiated by any evidence.

As outsiders, we will never know what actually happened. Let's not judge her. Leave her alone and let her get on with her life. I wish her happiness.

J Ng: Well done, Kaur. As expected, your threat of filing 'explosive affidavits' worked.

You have your ex-position to thank (but definitely not God) that our honourable authority relented. You don't have to thank the Immigration DG (director-general) as not revoking your PR is in the best interest of his political master.

You can obviously move on with your life happily. But do pray for others who are being similarly harassed but not in your ‘lucky’ position.

Gaji Buta: This indicates how vulnerable our authorities are to potential blackmail.

Anonymous 759201436321741: As invariably the case, it's always easy to condemn others when one is not forced into the same predicament.

Put it this way. She is neither a career a politician (such as former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim) nor a leader (except in her own family, perhaps).

She is a working housewife, just protecting her family. Her action might give the impression there was a trade-off. But who really cares?

And didn't she say she would challenge the deportation order? Is that why the authorities back down?

Finally, those who are critical of her, would you do it differently if you are faced with the same predicament?

If there is any blame game to be played, just blame it on ourselves. Don't we all deserve the government we elect?

Swipenter: Indeed, not many people are able to withstand this kind pressures exerted by the authorities. That is understandable.

It takes special kind of people to be consistently firm and steadfast to hold on to their principles and their beliefs to carry on their mission, no matter what the odds are against them.

The ultimate sacrifice would be giving up their life for their beliefs and idealism.

We have our own such fighters in Anwar, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, S Ambiga, Maria Chin Abdullah, Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, Rafizi Ramli, the late Irene Fernandez and all other unknown men and women who fought tirelessly against tyranny in small and big ways.

Citizen: Kaur, I wish you well. You had done what you could in the disbanded special task force. I do not expect you to fight alone for the cause of our country on your own when your family is being indirectly threatened.

Please take good care of yourself and your family and move on with your life. May God always bless you.

Vijay47: Kaur is a mother and a wife who has a life of her own to manage and lead. Yet we demand that she sacrifice all that she has wrought over the years and be some lady knight fighting our battles for us.

Of course, we were all waiting for and hoping that an explosive affidavit would have emerged so that Najib and Umno would get another whack. Too bad, but not this time.

Kaur did not cop out. After all these challenging anxious days, she has earned what she wants most in life - to be left alone in peace with her family.

I do not think any the less of her and can only wish her all the very best. With the many evil things going on, someone is sure to come out with the smoking gun. We only have to wait.

The Observer: She is an innocent victim of the Umno government's high-handed actions. Her wish for privacy should be respected and she should be allowed to live her life in the normal way as before.
