YOURSAY ‘This is because we want to restore honour back to the country.’

Najib slams Bersih 4 for clashing with N-Day fete

Pahatian: PM Najib Razak, how about doing national service by resigning from the PM’s post so that our beloved country can be free from corruption, and lies and more lies?

You still have the cheek to appear at the national parade and on TV before millions of Malaysians on Merdeka Day.

You have been churning out lies and half truths about our economy and how our nation has progressed through your transformation programmes.

Sorry Mr PM, nobody is buying your story. Just quit and all will be fine.

Victor Johan: We are patriotic to our nation, the Federation of Malaysia, and not to your Umno-led BN government. We hope you understand this simple fact.

You and your present leaders, and those of yesteryears, have largely ruin the nation.

We want to oust your team democratically and we await the next general election to do that. Meantime, we don't want you to helm the country any longer. Get it?

Anonymous_1419577444: The rakyat at Bersih 4 are doing their bit to celebrate Merdeka Day by re-affirming the cornerstones of the founding of the country and to pledge their loyalty to the country (not you!).

They also want an alleged thief to be removed from his position of leadership.

Lionking: A population of just 28 million, and with the resources that we have, would have made Malaysia a jewel in the world.

What we have is runaway corruption, a decadent education system, uncontrolled immigrants who are making Umno members rich, and crime that make ordinary rakyat reel in despair.

Look at the billions loss and of course the latest casualty is Malaysia Airlines (MAS). Who profited from MAS - was it Tajuddin Ramli, the ex-PM or the rakyat? Lots of people lost their jobs, and if I am not wrong, the majority were Malay.

Negarawan: "Whatever differences in opinion or ideology between us, national day should not be a stage for political conflict," Najib said.

It is not about differences in opinion; it is about Najib's indifference to the voice and plight of the rakyat as a result of his apparent greed, corruption, incompetency and abuse of power.

GE14NOW!: Whatever differences in opinion or ideology between us, no one wants an allegedly corrupt person to be at the helm of the Merdeka celebrations.

You have lost all legitimacy, Najib. To paraphrase your words - would it be appropriate from a corrupt leader, one who has allegedly ‘sold’ the country for money (even if it was billions), to be at the head of a gathering that commemorates our Merdeka Day?

Yes, the Merdeka celebrations should be a time when differences are put aside and the occasion celebrated with patriotism.

But your ‘treasonable’ act of accepting a humongous foreign donation (if indeed it was a donation) to win an election is not a difference of opinion. It is unacceptable and it is corruption.

We can think of no better patriotic manner than to march because we want to restore honour back to our country. You really should resign and go.

Kit P: The original Bersih, Bersih 2.0 and Bersih 3.0 did not clash with any national events.

Yet the authorities unleashed a massive wave of tear gas and water cannon to attempt to break them up. So your "too close to Merdeka" tale is hogwash.

CQ Muar: Najib, fancy you talking about provocation - criticising the demonstration for holding it at the time and place where the Merdeka parade will be held.

In the first place, who is the nation's No 1 provocateur, and for what purpose the demonstration is held?

Of all people, you ought to be the last person feeling proud of Merdeka. After all the despicable scandals and destruction, you ought to stay away from this memorable day.

Of course, we are proud of Merdeka, short of the shame you brought to the country.

Avatar 111: The rakyat, who are also taxpayers, are entitled to have their voices heard. The government and the institutions that are supposed to protect the rakyat have not done their parts.

Worst still, the rakyat feel betrayed and a lot of silly attempts are made to cover up and even to make the people look stupid, so the peaceful assembly to dissent is our only way out.

Takalih: There was a time Jalur Gemilang flew proudly on cars of all patriotic Malaysians come Merdeka Day. Today nary a flag is seen. This happens under your watch.

Or have you not seen this, being well-sheltered within the confine of your palatial edifice?

Lamps: Najib, when Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented on April 1, 2015, you had a lavish wedding for your daughter at KLCC. Yes, your timing was great, too.

Touche: Stop talking rubbish, Najib. Is it appropriate to have 1MDB? Is it appropriate to buy the power companies at sky high prices?

Is it appropriate to sell government land at dirt cheap prices? Is it appropriate to transfer RM2.6 billion allegedly from 1MDB to your bank account?

Think about it, Najib, but then again if you have the brains, the nation would not be in such a mess.

58 years on, the fight for Merdeka continues
