Salleh: Who's behind S’wak Report’s attacks on M’sia?

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak today questioned Sarawak ‎Report's editor Clare Rewcastle Brown's interview on Sky TV news last night and wondered if she is being used to attack Malaysia.

Salleh, in a blog posting, also questioned Rewcastle Brown's credentials as a journalist in "her fight" for Malaysia.

He said while she talked at length about how she uncovered evidence of corruption involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, she did not explain how she obtained this so-called evidence.

"It is alleged that some of the evidence had been tampered or doctored. We know that this ‘evidence’ could not have dropped from the sky so how did she manage to get it?

“Or did someone give her the evidence she claims she has, to use her as a tool to embarrass the PM?" quizzed Salleh ( photo ).

The newly appointed communications minister said possibly those who do not know Malaysia may have been impressed with what Rewcastle Brown presented, but again he questioned why the Sarawak Report editor was silent on who she is serving and who is paying for the operation of the website.

"She has confessed that she does receive foreign funding without being transparent with the details," he held, while adding that Rewcastle Brown talked as if Najib had already been indicted or convicted of a crime.

"As a veteran journalist, Rewcastle Brown knows that one is innocent until and unless proven guilty.

"However, she talks as if the evidence is conclusive and she knows for a fact that the PM is guilty just because she says so. Rewcastle Brown is judge, jury and executioner all in one.‎

"Rewcastle Brown is distorting the truth. She talks about the government jailing Anwar Ibrahim on trumped up charges but she did not mention that Anwar had refused to take the stand to testify and neither did he summon his dozen or so witnesses to court to support his alibi.

"In fact, he did not even produce an alibi. And that was why Anwar ( photo ) was convicted and not for the reasons that Rewcastle Brown says," the new communications minister said.

Rewcastle Brown claimed the Opposition won more than 50 percent of the vote, suggesting that it should be the opposition that is in government.

Salleh said he was extremely surprised that Rewcastle Brown was not aware that in the Westminster parliamentary system, it is the party that wins the most number of seats that gets to form the government and not the party that wins the most number of votes.

"Is this not what happened in the UK during the last two elections as well?” he pointed out.
