17 areas hit unhealthy haze levels as at 3pm

Seventeen areas in the country recorded unhealthy air quality as of 3pm today.

The areas were in Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak and Selangor, according to the Department of Environment’s website.

However, Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur which had the highest Air Pollutants Index (API) reading of 162 at 9am, saw the reading drop to 148 at 3pm.

At 3pm, Port Klang had the highest API reading at 153 followed by Batu Muda (148), Shah Alam (144), Kuala Selangor (143), Petaling Jaya (135), Samarahan (129), Cheras (125), Banting (123), Putrajaya (122), Jerantut (120), Nilai (120), Seremban (118), Kuching (115), Seri Manjung in Perak (114) and Sri Aman in Sarawak (111).

SK Jalan Pegoh and Jalan Tasek in Ipoh saw the air quality deterioriating, from moderate level at 9am to 107 and 101 respectively at 3pm.

In the central part of the peninsula, three areas saw air quality improving fromn unhealthy to moderate, namely Bukit Rambai, Malacca (92), Port Dickson (88) and Malacca City (87).

An API reading of between 0 and 50 is categorised as good; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 300 and above, hazardous.
