Is 'safe passage' for Najib to save M'sia or Umno?

YOURSAY 'So if the next PM does the same, do we give yet another safe passage?'

Kadir: Give Najib 'safe passage' to save country from ruin

RCZ: I am shocked at this disregard of the law by former New Straits Times editor-in-chief A Kadir Jasin. Crimes have been allegedly committed on such a grand scale that they have destroyed Malaysia and its integrity and good standing in the international community.

Billions are gone and Kadir is asking that PM Najib Razak and his cronies be let free? Have you read about businessman Jho Low's 30th birthday party in the United States and how much money was squandered?

It is not a question of which is better i.e. saving Najib or saving the country. If Umno and BN have any integrity, which they don't, both can happen - Najib faces justice and the country can be saved. Lost billions can also be recovered.

Kadir, what gives you the moral right to seek to save Najib when you and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had created the monsters that put Najib there and who had given him full powers over our institutions?

Roger 5201: When Najib directed the auditor-general to vet 1MDB’s accounts, he also said, “If any wrongdoing is proven, the law will be enforced without exception.”

He has never asked for any special treatment, so why talk about safe passage?

Anonymous 2289321434206704: Nobody is above the law. People in power should know better than the man on the street and they should meet the full brunt of the law. By letting Najib off the hook, what are we saying to the world of our justice system?

We should never set the precedence of letting a leader have safe passage. That will be an absolute mistake.

Najib should be probed and charged according to the laws of the land and should face the same music as anyone else, if found guilty.

GE14NOW!: Indeed, if the man is guilty then he should have the full weight of the law thrown against him. There should be no safe passage.

To even talk about "safe passage" is indicative that there is wrong committed. How can we grant him safe passage anyway? He is the PM of the country and with great power comes great responsibility.

Since he is not proven responsible, he should be tried and, if found guilty, locked up and have the keys thrown away.

The provision of safe passage will set up a precedence that would be unsustainable, as it will allow successive PMs to pillage and plunder and then be left off the hook with nothing more severe than a whack on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

FellowMalaysian: How could Kadir suggest that then Philippine president Corazon Aquino had allowed Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos to flee the country on Feb 25, 1986, when she held Marcos fully responsible for the murder of her husband Benigno, who was savagely gunned down three years earlier?

Albert Wong: Kadir, I nearly fell off my chair having read your crazy suggestion. Give the PM a safe passage?

First and foremost, Malaysians as a whole collectively must bear the responsibility of the consequences of this country's environmental, social, political and economic situation because we have continuously elected this government to govern this country.

Secondly, if any person has committed any wrongdoing it should be dealt with in accordance with the law. The country's number one, nominated by his party, elected by the people, should serve the people and not rob the nation.

To get away scot free, (if he is guilty) is setting a very, very bad precedent and is most unimaginable.

Thirdly, I believe we are not just talking of the PM. His whole cabinet and the directors of the institutions involved must also be answerable. Let the country suffer now, the bigger the fall, the bigger the lesson we learn, and let the people decide in GE14.

If the nation chooses BN again, let BN continue to plunder then.

Funny 1M: Kadir, do you mean saving Umno or Malaysia? We are talking not only about possible corruption, misuse of power, and many others. So if the next PM does the same, do we give another safe passage? How can this country progress?

Anonymous#007 : Yes, is Najib negotiating for a safe passage or is Umno negotiating for a safe passage for him?

Does this imply Najib is guilty of the allegations of corruption and involvements in other crimes, or is it because he and Umno do not believe in the independence of Malaysia's judiciary?

It's all well to quote Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe and Philippines' Marcos, but the truth is, these criminals could not have done it on their own. They needed support from their political parties and (sham) cabinet, and the help of people who were able to move large amounts of money under the radar.

Such as someone like kingpin Paul Phua Wei Seng, who ran an illegal betting/gambling operation, whom Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (now DPM) had claimed conducted "matters of national security interest" for Malaysia.

In fact, looking at the Thaksin Shinawatra example in Thailand, there will continue to be unrest unless the party that supports Najib is also disbanded, and all monies and assets owned by Najib, his family and Umno are returned to the rakyat.

The Analyser: From the way that Kadir talks, one would be excused for thinking that Najib is the sole person responsible for Malaysia's present ethical, economic and social crisis. Not so.

Najib is this year's whipping boy whom everyone wants to blame for everything. Get rid of Najib you say, and the world will change overnight. Sorry, you are all wrong, for the simple reason that one person could not possibly be responsible for the rot that permeates every sector of this society.

The situation at the moment is the result of the ongoing actions of all Malaysians over a number of years/decades. But being Malaysians, you will want to blame someone rather than face up to reality.

The list of people and organisations you blame is virtually endless, but you never blame yourselves.

As an aside, I would say that Najib has already ensured his own 'safe passage' and while he and his supreme council are in cahoots, there is nothing that the opposition in this country can change.

Cocomomo: He can have a free one way passage to Zimbabwe, after fully accounting for and restoration of all funds apart from that earned for services as MP and minister.

My View : I fully agree with Kadir, please give Najib 'safe passage' to ruin the country.
