Former Umno rep shot dead in T'ganu

Former Alor Limbat state assemblyman Alias Abdullah, 51, was shot dead at his home in Kampung Alor Limbat Bukit Payong Marang after Friday prayers here today.

Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman, who confirmed this to Bernama , said police were still investigating the incident.

"Police are still investigating from various aspects and I have directed my staff to get the full report on the incident," he said when contacted today.

In the 2pm incident, the victim who was in the kitchen, was said to have been approached by an unknown man on a motorcycle who fired a gunshot which hit his left cheek.

Alias was then rushed to the Bukit Payung health clinic by his neighbour Mohd Zuraini Mamat where he was given emergency treatment at about 2.15 pm but succumbed to his injuries.

Alias had been assemblyman for the Alor Limbat state constituency for two terms from 2004 before losing to PAS candidate, Ariffin Deraman during the 13th General Election held in May 2013.

His last political post was as Alor Limbat Umno branch chief.

Before becoming the people's representative, Alias who leaves behind a wife and four children, was the Head of Terengganu's state Prosecution Unit (Deputy Public Prosecutor/Senior Federal Counsel) from May 1, 1997 to Nov 18, 1999. - Bernama
