Air quality improves as haze clears a little

The haze caused by forest fires from Indonesia had cleared a little today, improving air quality in the country to moderate and good levels up to 11am.

The Department of Environment portal reported moderate air pollutant index readings at 9am in 35 areas, among them the City of Malacca (95), Bukit Rambai also in Malacca (93), Port Klang (90), Pasir Gudang, Johor (86), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (82), Seremban (76), Seri Manjung, Perak (70) and Perai, Penang (58).

Sixteen areas experienced good air quality, among them Labuan (17), Limbang (22) and Kapit (23) in Sarawak and Keningau (27), Kota Kinabalu (36), Sandakan (41) and Tawau (50) in Sabah.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.

The public can refer to the DOE portal at http://apims.doe.gov.my to get the latest API readings.
