Even after the conclusion of the 69th Umno annual general meeting last week, more branch chiefs have urged party president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to resign.

This time, they are from five Umno branches in the Gombak division - Delima Lembah Keramat, Kampung Kemensah Hilir, Jelatek Permai, Lakeview Batu Caves and Taman Melawati.

The spokesperson for the group, Hamdan Abd Rahman, said they have lost faith in the current leadership of the party.

The party is more important than any one individual in the party, Hamdan said.

"We have to practise the culture of putting the party's interests before (party) individual interests," he told a press conference in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, last night.

Hamdan also questioned why the party's financial statement was not presented during the Umno AGM last week.

"This time during the AGM, the treasurer did not present the yearly financial statement, like in previous years.

"What are they trying to hide?" he asked.

There was also a slight commotion as a man tried to disturb the press conference last night.

However, things did not descend into chaos as those who attended the conference managed to calm the man down.

After being calmed down by those in attendance, including Umno members, the man merely stayed and listened to the press conference before leaving.

Previously, 13 Umno branch chiefs from the Telok Kemang area have also urged Najib to resign.

A group of Umno grassroots leaders claiming to represent 20 Umno branches in Sepang have also made a similar call, followed by Umno branches in Johor Baru and Puchong.

Najib has been embroiled in the scandals of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion found in his personal bank accounts.

He has consistently denied wrongdoing and insisted that the huge sums of money found in his accounts was a "political donation" from the Middle East.
