After the move by Johor and Kelantan to ban the sale of vape, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has now said it will not issue vape licences to traders.

DBKL licensing and petty traders management department director Ibrahim Yussof said DBKL had received only one application for a vape sales licence and had rejected it.

"We will not issue such licence."

"I have told all sundry shops not to sell vape,” Ibrahim told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Asked whether the existing vape sellers will be affected and whether a grace period will be granted before a total ban is imposed, he said he needs to discuss the matter with the DBKL top management.

The Johor and Kelantan goverments have respectively banned vape from Jan 1 next year.

But vape groups have called for a moratorium pending the federal government's decision.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim confirmed that DBKL will stop issuing or renewing licences to stand-alone liquor shops, following Federal Territories Deputy Minister Loga Bala Mohan 's annoucement in Dewan Negara yesterday.

"Look at Brickfields, some liquor shops there broke the rules by selling liquor beyond the time limit (9am to 9pm).

"We have received many complaints from residents there. For example, there were complaints about Bangladeshi and Nepali workers who buy liquor from these shops.

"If they get drunk, they harass people," he said.
