Ex-KL top cop charged with not declaring RM1m commission

Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Ku Chin Wah has been charged for allegedly not declaring a RM961,500 commission in 2013.

Ku pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 49(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

The former criminal investigation chief was brought into the court room in handcuffs, wearing a white shirt and a black jacket.

According to the charge read out to Ku at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court today, he had failed to comply with a notice from the public prosecutor under Section 49(1) of the same Act to declare the commission, resulting in the offence.

Met after the charge was read out, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim said the details of the case will only be revealed during the trial.

If found guilty, Ku can be fined up to RM1 million, and sentenced to one year in jail or both.

The case has been set for mention on Feb 23 .

Bail has been set at RM30,000 with one surety.

Ku was transferred from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters to Bukit Aman in January 2014.

He was replaced two months later by former Timur Laut police chief Gan Kor Ming.
