'Years of work gone' after MCMC blocks freelance journo's site
Departing from his usual entries that featured prominent Malaysian politicians, local photo journalist Minaq Jinggo had in his last posting dated today shared several photographs of monkeys at the National Zoo.

Departing from his usual entries that featured prominent Malaysian politicians, local photo journalist Minaq Jinggo had in his last posting dated today shared several photographs of monkeys at the National Zoo.
As such, he was puzzled as to the reason why the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had blocked access to his photo blog .
Minaq said years of his hard work will go to waste following the ban imposed by MCMC.
“They (MCMC) should have issued a notice first or call me up... If their warning goes unheeded, then go ahead and block.
“Now, years of my hard work will go to waste. Surely the government can’t be this ruthless?” he told Malaysiakini .
His photo blog was among the four local websites blocked by the MCMC today.
“A blog that does not attack (prime minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) and refrains from harsh language is blocked? Is it purely because it often carries news seen to be pro-Tun M (former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad)?” Minaq asked.
He added that he received a lot of calls from friends and followers who asked if he would fight against the ban.
“We will wait and see. If Jinggo can be banned, what about the others?” Minaq noted.
Another local blogger, Syed Akbar Ali, also similarly questioned MCMC’s ban on his blog .
“The whole force of the government and authorities is being used to clamp down on us,” he said in reference to the other local bloggers whose sites were similarly blocked.
While noting that Najib has been unapologetic over the need to step up national security , Syed Akbar pointed out that his personal stand has always been to oppose any act of violence.
“Are you saying that we (bloggers) are a threat to national security?” he asked.
Asked on possible reasons for MCMC to block his blog, Syed Akbar said he is unsure.
"I can't recall anything except for a recent entry a few days ago where I had copied a link to a Sarawak Report article," he said in reference to the whistleblower website that has similarly been blocked.
Aside from Minaq and Syed Akbar, two other sites blocked since this morning were tabunginsider and Din Turtle .
Tabunginsider is a newly-created blog site that had exposed a warning letter allegedly issued by Bank Negara to the management of Tabung Haji.
Din Turtle, on the other hand, is a prominent name in the Malay blogosphere. He is known as a fierce critic of Najib and supporter of Mahathir.
Earlier this week, MCMC had also blocked access to online publication platform Medium.com over its refusal to remove an article that was first published by Sarawak Report .
Malaysiakini has contacted MCMC for its response on the matter.
