Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem should have kept his meeting with the Election Commission (EC) under wraps, said PKR's Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

This is so that it would not make it seem like the EC is being told what to do by the chief minister, she explained.

"But I guess if it's confirmed, then we don't need the EC, huh? We just need a chief minister," she joked to reporters after flagging off the convoy tour for the 'Free Anwar' campaign in Segambut today.

Pointing out that Adenan had only proposed the dates for the Sarawak state elections to the EC, she added that he still should have done it "behind closed doors".

"We do not want to give the impression that the Sarawak chief minister dictates the EC on what it needs to do and what it does not need to do," she said.

Adenan said yesterday that he has proposed dates for the Sarawak polls, with nominations on April 18 and polling on April 30.

EC chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah replied last night that anyone can suggest dates for the Sarawak state election, but that it will not be set until after the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

Confusion over Adenan's announcement of his proposed dates have earned him brickbats from opposition leaders and electoral watchdog Bersih.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah emphasised that PKR is prepared for the coming state elections.

PKR's top leadership will actually be launching their main control centre in Sarawak this weekend, she revealed.

"All our proposed candidates are there. It just showcases our resolve to continue with the work and do our best to gain the support of Sarawakians," she said.

This sentiment is also echoed by Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen, who noted that his party is ready to face the state polls.
