A police report has been filed against an engineer with a government-linked firm over a Facebook post in which he threatened to bomb Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s residence.

This has prompted Mohd Ali Baharom, popularly known as Ali Tinju, to lodge a police report against the engineer.

Mohd Ali lodged the report with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this morning after seeing a screen capture of the Facebook posting being circulated on WhatsApp.

"This threat is serious as it can threaten public security around Kuala Lumpur and also the security of the prime minister's family," said Mohd Ali, who described himself as part of Gerakan Merah, in the police report.

He also noted that this came less than a month after the Jakarta bombings. Malaysia has been placed on the highest terror alert since the incident.

The engineer’s posting reads: "I will shake Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian prime minister's residence with a bomb explosion this Saturday because Najib is causing the rakyat hardship."

The Facebook posting received six 'likes', according to the screen capture.

It is understood that the posting has since been deleted and the Facebook account disabled.

Mohd Ali said he hoped the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would trace the individual for further investigation.
