Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today pledged to fight against corruption in football.

"We don't want football to be sullied by corruption," he said to loud applause at the launch of this season's Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) football squad in Putrajaya.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister, assured that police will take action if they receive any evidence of corruption among players, coaches, or officials.

The deputy premier said he had received such complaints last year, and that some of those who were on the take have been hauled up.

"But I don't want to shame them, so I won't name them.

"We will not compromise this season, we will take action," Zahid said.

He urged those with evidence of corruption in Malaysian football to lodge reports with police so that action can be taken.
