'Mike throwing not as bad as PAS' Chinese deity blunder'

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu's throwing of a microphone is not a serious matter compared to a PAS leader dressing up as a Chinese deity, said Amanah adviser Ahmad Awang.

"Throwing a microphone would not weaken one's faith ( rosak akidah ). What is more damaging to the faith is for PAS Paya Jaras assemblyperson Mohd Khairuddin Othman to wear the costume of a Chinese deity.

"Whether Khairuddin was ignorant or was forced to do it is another matter," Ahmad told Malaysiakini after a programme at Restoran Amjal in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

Ahmad described Mohamad's act as one that was meant to press home an important message to the people.

"If he didn't do it, no one would remember what Mat Sabu was saying at the time.

"When he did that (threw the microphone), everyone would remember. Mat Sabu was expressing his dissatisfaction (with the current state of affairs)," he said.

The usually jovial Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, raised eyebrows on Tuesday night when he threw his microphone down in exasperation at the public's apathy towards the rampant corruption in the country.

Meanwhile PAS assemblyperson Khairuddin raised eyebrows this week for appearing at a Chinese New Year function dressed as the Taoist deity Cao Guojiu.

If bankrupt he cannot hold his post

Commenting on the matter of bankruptcy proceedings against Amanah president Mohamad, Ahmad said that the party will have to clarify the matter before taking action.

"We have to check first, we must decide on how to solve this, if he is declared bankrupt he cannot hold his post until after he has cleared the matter.

"This matter will need time, for the RM200,000, a solution must be found," said Ahmad.

Though the Amanah advisor said that it is still early to conclude anything as legal proceedings are still ongoing.

He was responding to questions on the banruptcy proceedings being brought against Mohamad after he failed to settle RM200,000 defamation claim awarded to former EC secretary Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.

The amount was damages awarded by the courts to Wan Ahmad after Mat Sabu was found guilty of defaming the former EC official with allegations connected to 'Project IC' in Sabah.
