'Former AG's silence shows crime in SRC's transaction'

The silence of former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail only shows that he did give former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin with evidence of the deposit of funds from state-owned SRC International into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.

In stating so today, PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar said he based his claim on the fact that Gani did not rebut Muhyiddin , who alleged wrongdoing in the transaction.

"Gani's stand to remain silent on Muhyiddin's remark has caused Malaysians to question (the issue)," he said in a statement.

"This proved that Muhyiddin was correct when he said Gani indeed told him that when he was still the deputy prime minister.

"If this was merely an allegation, Gani can surely deny it and he can summon Muhyiddin," he said.

The removal of Muhyiddin and Gani from their posts was a swift action to stop prosecution on the matter, Mahfuz said.

'It shows MACC panel has obtained evidence'

Muhyiddin's latest expose, he noted, collaborated with the fact that the MACC operations review panel (ORP) had advised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to re-submit its investigation paper into the SRC International case to the attorney-general's chambers.

"This shows that ORP has obtained the evidence (which could lead to) the prosecution of Najib," he said.

As such, Mahfuz ( photo ) said, Mohamed Apandi Ali, who took over from Gani, has tarnished the reputation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers, which elected him to the post.

He then questioned if attorney-general Apandi was indeed sheltering a criminal.

Muhyiddin made the revelation on what Gani told him one day after his suspension as Umno deputy president.

SRC has denied any wrongdoing in its RM4 billion loan obtained from Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) and noted that the loan was accounted for in its balance sheet.

Mahfuz repeated his challenge to both Najib and the public prosecutor to table MACC's investigation papers to the Dewan Rakyat, which will commence sitting on March 7.

"If Apandi finds out that Gani indeed lied to Muhyiddin, he should take action against his predecessor," he added.

In light of Apandi's admission that SRC chanelled RM42 million into Najib's personal account, he should prosecute Najib immediately and let the court to decide if Najib was aware of the transaction, according to Mahfuz.

"The court needs to be told who gave the money and what Najib has done with the money.

"Apandi must understand that he is a public prosecutor, not Najib's lawyer. His main duty is not to protect Najib's personal interest but public interest," Mahfuz said.
