Taken aback by sultan's defence of Utusan

YOURSAY | ‘Recently you said the credibility of state-owned media was in question.’

Utusan Malaysia not racist, says Perak sultan

Commentable: The test as to whether Utusan Malaysia is racist or not should be objective and not subjective. The subjective opinion of one man cannot be held as the gospel truth to his assertion of fact.

It is the opinion of the 'ordinary man in the street' that matters. Applying the objective test here in the commentary section of this article, I think one would have got the answer loud and clear.

Ipohcrite: Of all the newspapers, HRH (His Royal Highness) Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has chosen to defend Utusan ?

With due respect, I wonder whether HRH has read some of the racial and divisive nonsense that Utusan has spewed all these years.

Why, Utusan holds the record of being sued for lies and slander and lost most of its cases, but it is now touted by HRH as embodying the spirit of Malaysia.

Credibility once lost, is almost impossible to regain.

Malaccan: With due respect to HRH, I am a private citizen and I object to the insinuation of having an agenda to derail the so-called social contract. Neither have I done all those things mentioned in the article.

Reading for myself, I find that Utusan is obviously racist in the slant of its reports even to the point of printing cruel slander. It is a clear and present danger to the harmony of the races in Malaysia.

The so-called social contact is a recent construct arising from political deterioration, is ill-defined and oft abused to bully minority races. A fair, balanced and public conversation on it should be initiated and not just forced down everyone's throats.

No amount of support can absolve Utusan of fanning racial fires to shore up support for its political masters. That this comes from a ruler is deeply and bitingly disappointing, namely that such a personage is not immune to so narrow a view.

I pray HRH will come to hear and understand the views of the vast majority of the rakyat.

Negarawan: "They are increasingly vocal in questioning the status of bumiputera in the country and do all kinds of subversive activities to dethrone the special position of the bumiputera that is enshrined in the federal constitution," said Sultan Nazrin.

Many are surprised by your inconsistencies. Recently you said that the credibility of state-owned media was in question . And now you say that Utusan is not racist when history has proven otherwise.

Who are doing all kinds of subversive activities to undermine the Malays? Let me ask, what do we find in common in the scandals surrounding 1MDB, the RM2.6 billion (now US$1 billion) "Saudi donation", Yapeim, Mara, Tabung Haji, etc?

Yes, the answer is clear. It is mostly the Malays themselves who are sabotaging their own race and religion.

Do you know how the non-Malay citizens feel? It is like Ahmad hits Ah Kow and Muthu hard on their heads, and then Ahmad turns around and shouts, "The Chinese and Indians are bullying me!"

N1: In Bolehland, the term racist carries a totally different meaning from the rest of the world. This is probably the only place in the world that a person is called racist if he or she is against the discrimination based on race and religion.

Vijay47: Leaving aside your supplicant sentiments towards not just Utusan but the entire group, the people appreciate and welcome the fact that you have at least now revealed your true colours.

In your wisdom, you choose to admire and present Utusan as the doyen, beacon, and safeguard of "the spirit of Malaysia" and if that spirit is what Utusan embodies, then we are in worse trouble then we imagined.

And for good measure you stir in that inevitable stand that anyone who condemns Utusan’s racist and offensive policies, he must be against the special position of bumiputeras.

Perhaps in your dotage you would be able to explain this enigma to us ignorant peasants. For the moment, Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Ibrahim Ali, why, even Ridhuan Tee Abdullah and the rest of the Umno illuminati could not have expressed it better.

Hang Babeuf: Okay, “not racist” - if you insist, Your Highness. Just adamantly Malay supremacist and rabidly ethno-sectarian.

Does that boot fit Utusan’s always kicking foot? The foot that - to borrow a recent “Kadir Jasin-ism”- always kicks prospects decent mutual accommodation, for “inter-communal” conciliation and national unity, “ in the groin ”.

TheAnonymous: I wonder what if a Chinese daily had splashed its headlines with 'Apa lagi Melayu mahu?' Will it be considered as a racist daily?

TheSaint: Ampun Tuanku for saying this, but I am shocked at the statement coming from such a wise royalty like you.

"An intelligent man believes only half of what he hears; a wise man knows which half." And please don't get me arrested for speaking my mind. Ampun Tuanku.

‘Your Highness, we respectfully beg to disagree’
