Budget airline Firefly has explained its series of promotional posters featuring women’s posterior, stressing that they were not meant to be offensive.
“It was never intended to be offensive,” a Firefly spokesperson told Malaysiakini .
Both the advertisements in question were subsequently removed from the airline’s controllable channels after the company heard what its customers had to say on the matter, the spokesperson confirmed.
One of the posters showed a woman's posterior with the text "50% off" by a bench, which said "caution wet paint", also bearing the text "50% off".
The poster read: "Firefly sticks to you."
The advertisement - which was posted on Firefly's Facebook on Monday - was accompanied by a caption, reading: "Come grab it real fast."
Another poster showed the posterior of two women, which bore the text "50% + 10%", along with a slogan of: "Oooppss.. We did it again."
Meanwhile, DAP Wanita assistant publicity secretary Syerleena Abdul Rashid has described the advertisements which objectified women as "mind-boggling", while Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah also slammed the said adverts.
Malaysiakini ’s check on Firefly's Facebook page yesterday found that the posters had already been removed.
