Umno MP: Pelting of eggs a warning for arrogant DAP leaders

Umno lawmaker Ahmad Nazlan Idris has described the incident in his constituency where eggs were pelted at DAP leaders as a strong warning to them not to be arrogant.

Also present at the Jerantut event on March 21 was DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Ahmad Nazlan said the incident should serve as a lesson, especially for Lim who is over-confident about party members willing to stand by the leadership no matter what happens.

"The incident clearly shows their presence in Jerantut was rejected by their own members.

"DAP leaders were not only pelted with eggs, but the signboard at the DAP Jerantut parliament service centre was also removed.

"This is a sign of protest by DAP members who are bored and tired with the lies of the DAP leadership," he was quoted as saying by Umno Online .

The Umno MP said the people of Jerantut, especially the Chinese, are now able to evaluate the DAP leadership, whom he described as often not walking the talk.

On the same note, Ahmad Nazlan said Umno was not involved in the incident.

"Umno was not involved. I myself was in Parliament when it happened.

"So let there be no quarters who link Umno to the incident. I was made to understand that it is the work of their own members," he added.

Pahang DAP chairperson Leong Ngah Ngah had blamed the incident on members upset with the party conceding a seat to PKR.

He said DAP had given up the Damak state seat in Pahang to PKR during the 12th general election in 2008.

"The DAP contested in Damak in 2004. In 2008, we did not have a candidate so PKR contested the seat.

"Now to take back the seat is very difficult," said the Tanah Rata assemblyperson, adding that some grassroots members had wanted their favoured candidate to contest the seat.
