Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says he is not against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plans to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

However Razaleigh, better known as Ku Li, feels that the plan is unconstitutional.

"I'm not against what Mahathir wants to do, but I don't think its possible because the constitution won't allow it," he said in an interview in today's edition of Utusan Malaysia .

Mahathir is currently embarking on an effort to get public support for a citizens' declaration against Najib, which he plans to submit to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Razaleigh however is skeptical, and has told Mahathir that it won't work.

"(I told him) you can try to force the Agong, but his Majesty may not follow because the Agong will only act based on what is provided for under the constitution.

"That's how we want it, right (Agong following constitution)? Or else our country would be in chaos."

Relentless attacks

The Gua Musang MP said he had also told his former rival that Najib can't be ousted unless Mahathir convinces MPs to turn against the prime minister.

He was asked for comment on Mahathir’s relentless attacks against Najib.

“That it is his way. I respect Mahathir. He is looking for strength. I asked him, ‘where are you going?’ (with the attacks) and he said he was going on until Najib was removed.

“Then I told Mahathir, Najib was elected through a democratic election. If you can’t reduce the confidence of MPs who are currently supporting him, he will remain as PM (after GE14),” said Razaleigh.

Mahathir, who is spearheading the Citizens’ Declaration movement against Najib, had yesterday made an appearance at the Pakatan Harapan-led anti-Goods and Services Tax rally in Kuala Lumpur.

At the rally, Mahathir reiterated the call for one million Malaysians to sign the Citizens’ Declaration, after which it would be submitted to the Council of Rulers.
