S'WAK POLLS Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem today announced that Mohamad Ali Mahmud will be contesting the Stakan state seat in the coming 11th state election.
The announcement was made at the launch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) party machinery for Asajaya, Muara Tuang and Stakan state seats at Dewan Suarah Kota Samarahan.
The three state constituencies are under the Samarahan parliamentary constituency and with the announcement, Mohamad Ali, 65, who is the Muara Tuang incumbent would switch seats after two terms.
The Stakan seat is one of 11 new seats approved under a redelineation exercise which will see 82 seats being contested compared with 71 in previous elections.
However, Adenan who is also PBB president, did not announce who would be contesting in the Muara Tuang seat as Mohamad Ali's replacement.
Adenan said he would decide on a suitable candidate and called for support for his decision.
The chief minister who is also the state BN chairperson, announced that the incumbent for Asajaya, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, would be retained in the state.
Abdul Karim, 55, a lawyer, has been the constituency's state assemblyperson for three terms.
In the 2011 state election, Abdul Karim who was the state Housing Assistant Minister as well as Youth Development (Urban) Assistant Minister, defeated PKR candidate Arip Ameran by a 4,489 vote majority.
