Batu Kitang BN candidate denies playing gutter politics

S'WAK POLLS BN Batu Kitang candidate Lo Khere Chiang has denied playing gutter politics by instigating the grandmother of his rival DAP candidate, Abdul Aziz Isa, to ask voters not to vote for her grandson.

Lo was responding to Aziz, who accused him of making use of his grandmother to seek support during a ceramah Lo held.

Lo also denied the accusation made by PKR's Batu Kitang candidate, Voon Shiak Ni, that he was using underhand tactics to undermine the young Aziz.

The row was sparked off when Aziz's 75-year-old grandmother, Mazuyin Abd Manan, appeared at Lo's ceramah and told voters not to support her grandson.

"I need to clarify that she came to my ceramah on her own accord and spoke to the press on her own initiative. I never once instigated her.

"Aziz's grandmother is a person with a strong character who dearly loves her grandson and is disappointed with his ways," Lo said in a statement today.

"I am blessed to have her support, and I welcome anyone who comes to support me.

"Aziz has access to his grandmother and he should ask his grandmother the actual fact. I have a deep respect for all elderly people and Aziz’s grandmother knows that," he said.

Voon (photo) in a statement yesterday said: "I am appalled by the underhand tactics used by BN to undermine my young opponent from the DAP."

She said BN was using an elderly woman to attack Aziz for his lack of experience.

Voon also called on the BN to refrain from playing gutter politics.

In his rebuttal, Lo asked if Voon was genuine in defending Aziz when both PKR and DAP are at each other's throats.

It was reported that Mazuyin was shocked when she heard that Aziz is being fielded under the DAP ticket in Batu Kitang.

“I don’t like the fact that my own grandson wants to oppose BN, and this is why I’m here to support Lo. Don’t vote for Aziz...

“He’s really young, hasn’t even started working. But suddenly, he now wants to go against the government," Free Malaysia Today quotes Mazuyin as saying.

Aziz, 26, is a great grandson of former Sarawak governor and third chief minister Abdul Rahman Yakub.
