Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin has rained insults on Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim for filing a police report against Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Unleashing his salvos on Twitter, Zainuddin, who is often referred to as Zam, highlighted the difference between the former DAP member and ex-prime minister.

Responding to a twitter user who noted that Tunku Aziz has quit DAP, he said: “Correct. But he committed treason against the rulers when he was willing to be a lackey of a party which wants to abolish the rulers. But Mahathir is using DAP.”

The DAP, which is predominantly Chinese, is often accused of harbouring an agenda to undermine the position of the Malays, Islam and Malay rulers.

DAP leaders have repeatedly denied these claims, and blamed their political rivals for such a vilification campaign to sow distrust and anger among Malay voters.

Earlier, Zainuddin described Tunku Aziz as being “two-faced” and accused him of doing a greater disservice to the Malay community.

“Tunku Aziz joining DAP had eroded the dignity of the Malays more compared to the allegation that Mahathir claimed the (Yang di-Pertuan) Agong is under house arrest,” he said.

He added that Tunku Aziz should be arrested for “teaching” Mahathir to collaborate with DAP.

Yesterday, Tunku Aziz, who is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) adviser, filed a police report against Mahathir over his remarks concerning the rulers.

During a recent event, the former prime minister lamented how he had yet to secure an audience with the Agong to submit the more than one million signatures collected for the Citizens’ Declaration.

Following this, Mahathir made a startling remark that he believes the rulers, including the Agong, might be under house arrest.

The Citizens’ Declaration seeks to remove Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and brought together former foes for a common agenda.

However, both sides had to deal with criticism for joining hands with arch-rivals as well as claims of being exploited by each other to achieve their respective agendas.
