Rafizi to file MACC report on 'cash and sex' claim

Rafizi Ramli will file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the allegation that money and women were sought in negotiations with the Selangor government.

The PKR secretary-general said he would file the report with the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya next Monday.

Rafizi also trained this announcement on his "friends from Umno and BN", whom he said were pressuring him to file the report, while they remained silent on the 1MDB imbroglio and other scandals involving the ruling coalition.

The Pandan lawmaker also lauded PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the political bureau's decision that he should furnish whatever evidence he possessed to MACC.

"This will be a precedent for party members who have information on the wrongdoing of party members or administrations involving party members to report directly to the authorities without having to be concerned that such an action will be viewed as sabotaging the party.

"This decision is the best gift to the reminder from (jailed PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim that party leaders and members do not stray from the original aim of the reformasi struggle," he said.

Rafizi also addressed concerns that his exposé of possible corruption involving the party might weaken PKR, as well as harsher claims that he has been bought and was sabotaging the party in exchange for the various charges against him to be dropped by the powers-that-be.

"I hope that the rakyat will understand that my commitment to fight corruption is indivisible whether it is within or without the party, though I have to be sensitive of political backstabbing that may make things worse," he said

Rafizi said this was why he waited for the party to decide on the matter before proceeding to lodge the report, so that it was clear that he was acting on the party's instruction instead of going against it.

Oppressive laws

Commenting on Anwar's call for a return to reformasi, Rafizi said he was weaned on reformasi from his student days as an activist.

He said it was reformasi that gave the rakyat the strength to persevere against oppressive laws and helped the people break away from living under a feudalistic system.

He pointed out that the main principle stressed in reformasi was that power corrupts and the authority must be held accountable.

He added that this was the main difference between the reform movement and the ruling BN coalition.

In the BN, corruption was often ignored or hidden whereas reformasi exposed it and held all public officials accountable for the rakyat's monies entrusted to them, he said.

He said the instruction by PKR for him to proceed and lodge the report with the MACC showed that reformasi was still alive and well in the party.

"I am relieved that despite the storm in the teacup that broke out this week, I am certain that the spirit of reformasi is still fresh and getting stronger in PKR.

"If last time we were faced with hardship and pressures to test our resolve, we are now given power and wealth to test our sincerity," said Rafizi.
