K KANGSAR POLLS PAS has found that 84 percent of Malays in Kuala Kangsar agree with its president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member’s Bill on Act 355 through a survey, said its vice-president Idris Ahmad.

"The survey we carried out found that 84 percent of the Malays agreed with the bill and with syariah law in our struggle," Idris said at a press conference in Kuala Kangsar today.

This was something similar to the poll done by Malaysian youth activist Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman via Twitter, he said.

"A total 20,000 responded in the Twitter poll. This was higher than ours," he added.

Non-Malays, particularly the Chinese, Idris said, do not understand Hadi's Private Member’s Bill.

They came to understand it after PAS explained the bill directly to them, Idris said.

PAS organised a dialogue session with the Chinese community in Jerlun on June 5, where both Hadi and Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria explained the matter to them.

They accepted that the matter was related to PAS' struggles, after the party explained the bill to them and gave them a clear picture, he added.

Slamming those who opposed the bill, Idris said it was fortunate the syariah court had been set up long ago; otherwise these groups would oppose that as well.

Idris reiterated that PAS' struggle in uplifting Islam would not affect other religions.

"If we have such understanding, then everything will be okay, just like we have understanding in Kelantan to allow the people build temples," he said.

"Our God tell us not to insult other God; if not, people will (respond) by insulting (your) God," he said.
