An MCA leader has criticised Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman over his remarks concerning DAP, which come in the wake of an Islamic State propaganda video calling on its supporters to kill non-Muslims and police personnel.

"At a time where the police have been targeted by IS, it is irresponsible for the mufti to add fuel or confusion by implying that anyone's blood can be spilled.

"This can lead to 'frenzy killing'. This is a threat to security.

"Are we intending or encouraging more 'lone wolf' attacks or possible mass violence?" Ti Lian Ker told Malaysiakini.

The MCA central committee member was responding to Abdul Rahman classifying DAP as kafir harbi for opposing Islamic principles with regard to PAS' theocratic goals.

It is an Islamic belief that those deemed as kafir harbi could be killed for waging war against Islam.

Despite MCA also being vocal against PAS' aim to introduce amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdictions) Act 1965, also known as Act 355, the mufti r did not mention the BN component parties.

Meanwhile, Ti said politicking should not be the realm of a mufti.

He pointed out that the mufti should realise that statements made by his office have far-reaching consequences.

"Moreover, his statement is more political than religious. This is the problem when clerics confuse themselves and cross the line using religious authority.

"This is not the Islam we all know in Malaysia. We all grew up in Malaysia with respect for Islam as a religion of peace.

"Let us be reminded that Islam is about peace. Islam is about tolerance. Islam's emphasis is not on violence or the spilling of someone's blood in Malaysia.

"We are not at war. We are a peaceful, harmonious, democratic nation," he added.

Yesterday, news reports stated that IS had released a new propaganda video, which featured a Malaysian as well.

In the video, the Malaysian, identified as Mohd Rafi Udin from Negri Sembilan, warned that there would be no peace for police personnel in the Bukit Aman headquarters.

Rafi also urged IS supporters to employ whatever means necessary to kill non-believers.

"Kill them wherever you meet them... If you have a car, hit them...

"Use your weapons and knives to stab them in the chest," he said, adding that he and his friends in Syria would lend them support from afar.
