Umno Parit Medan branch chief Mohd Solehan Badri today torched his uniform in front of the Pagoh Umno headquarters, to protest the sacking of Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin from the party.

According to Sin Chew Daily, an upset Mohd Solehan took out his red Umno uniform from his car and set it ablaze with a lighter.

He pulled off the stunt after speaking to the media to announce his resignation as branch chief along with four other Umno branch chiefs, who were from Gersik, Kundang Ulu, Bukit Serampang and Batu 6.

The branches were within the Pagoh Umno division, of which Muhyiddin was chief, until his sacking.

The group said they hoped their move would spark further resignations within the 106 Umno branches in the Pagoh division.

However, the five only relinquished their positions, but remain in the party.

Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir were sacked from Umno last Friday on disciplinary grounds.

Both have been vocal critics of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his handling of the 1MDB scandal and multi-billion ringgit deposits in his personal bank accounts.

The Umno supreme council last Friday also moved to suspend Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, another critic of Najib, which sparked mass resignations in Shafie's Umno division of Semporna.

Najib has denied wrongdoing and said he had never taken public funds for personal gain.
