After pleas to Azmin, S'gor agrees to help struggling family earn a living

The Selangor state government has agreed to help a foodstall operator and her family by granting them a new location for them to continue their business.

The Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) made the decision on July 19 after taking into consideration Jaye Sury Rajoo’s plight as the sole breadwinner of her family after her husband was left paralysed after a stroke.

In a statement from Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's office, it said Jaye Sury would be given a new shop at Desa Coalfields.

Azmin expressed his appreciation towards MDKS for its efforts in helping her, adding that local councils needed to be sensitive to the public's plight.

However, when contacted by Malaysiakini today, Jaye Sury said she had not received an offer for a new shop.

"No, I wasn't offered anything, but they did meet me to discuss about my current shop," she said.

She also complained that Desa Coalfields was a bad place to run a business as there were not many people around.

“A lot of cars pass by where my shop currently is, but in Desa Coalfields even a two-story shop closed because there was no business," she said.

Jaye Sury had previously sent a memorandum to Azmin on July 12, pleading for him to postpone the demolition of her shophouse at Sungai Buloh.

Her memorandum had also requested for the grant of a new council shoplot, to replace the one she has been operating since 1999.

A first evacuation notice was sent to her by the Kuala Selangor District and Land Office on April 4 and subsequently on June 13 after a failed appeal.

MDKS was allegedly forced to reclaim the land and cancel the building permit for the shop as the land is part of an ongoing road-widening project.
