Duo charged with committing terrorist act in Puchong bomb blast

A factory operator and an unemployed man were charged in the Magistrate's Court in Petaling Jaya today with committing a terrorist act in connection with an explosion at an entertainment centre in Puchong last month.

Imam Wahyudin Karjono, 20, from Puchong, Selangor, and Jonius Ondie @Jahali, 24, from Sabah, were charged with committing the offence by hurling and exploding a hand grenade which used the 'Fuze M213' fuse lever, causing eight people to be injured.

The act was intended to further an ideology and threaten public order in Malaysia.

The two men, who were unrepresented, were charged with committing the offence at Movida Boulevard Sdn Bhd, Lot G2 & G3, Ground Floor, IOI Boulevard, Jalan Kenari 5, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Puchong, at 2am last June 28.

They were charged under Section 130JB(1)(b) of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years and is liable to fine, if found guilty.

Imam Wahyudin was also charged with supporting the commission of a terrorist act by using an explosive, and action which was also intended to further an ideology and threaten public order in Malaysia, through a Telegram application on his handphone at C-4-19, Block Cempaka, Jalan Indah 1, Puchong in Petaling Jaya, between March 25 and June 28 this year.

The charge, under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code, provides a life imprisonment, or a jail term of up to 30 years, or fine and liable to forfeiture of any property used in the commission of the offence, if found guilty.

No plea was recorded from the two accused after the charges were read out to them before Magistrate Zaki Asraf Zubir, who then set Sept 26 for mention.

Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court before judge Azhaniz Teh Azman, Imam Wahyudin and Jonius pleaded guilty to nine charges, including one for possession of a hand grenade which used the 'Fuze M213' fuse level at the same place, time and date.

The other eight counts, made under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years, if found guilty, were for throwing and exploding the hand grenade which resulted in eight people to be injured at the same place, time and date.

They face an imprisonment for up to 30 years, if found guilty.

The charge for possession of the hand grenade was made under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which provides an imprisonment for up to 14 years and not less than six strokes of the cane, if found guilty.

Selangor prosecuting director Roslan Mat Nor did not offer bail as both the accused were facing charges under Section 13 of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

Azhaniz Teh set Sept 21 for mention pending a social report on Imam Wahyudin before sentencing.
