'Najib must also apologise for the slight against Agong'

Despite calls for Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad to apologise for saying that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the mysterious Malaysian Official 1 (MO1), an Amanah MP suggested that it is his boss Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who has to beg for royal forgiveness for a much bigger sin.

"Actually, the slight against the Agong and the Conference of Rulers is much more serious and of a wider scope than thought.

"Najib himself as the prime minister must apologise to the Conference of Rulers for ignoring their October 2015 royal decree for the government to expeditiously remedy the 1MDB matter," said Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad in a statement today.

The Terengganu prince said the government led by Najib has failed to take action to protect Malaysia's good name.

The 1MDB issue has become more serious, with countries like Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Singapore and the United States taking legal action against persons and accounts linked to the government-owned investment fund.

"Actually, the Agong and the Conference of Rulers had urged that Najib resolve the 1MDB matter, but now Nawawi tried to implicate the Agong in the MO1 (controversy).

"Not only is the Langkawi MP's actions rude and slanderous, Najib's inaction had also led to the problem becoming worse,” said Raja Bahrin.

He said if the ruling government and government-linked religious scholars in the country chose to be silent, the people and their representatives as well as veteran religious scholars must speak out.

"When religious scholars with authority and posts in the government chose silence, that is a sign that a government is beyond redemption," he added.

Yesterday, Nawawi courted controversy when he wrote in a Facebook post that the term MO1 actually refers to the Agong as the head of state or highest authority in the land, constitutionally speaking.

But later MP had edited out that part of the comment he posted.

He was immediately rained with brickbats for his apparent disrespect of the Agong. At least one police report has been lodged against him over the matter.

Najib, on the other hand, was handed a decree by the Conference of Rulers to resolce the 1MDB matter judiciously and expeditiously, to protect Malaysia's good name.
