Pleasant chat with Obama? The picture better than a thousand words

YOURSAY | ‘Obama may be wishing him the best of luck in doing gardening at Bamboo River.’

Najib: I had a pleasant chat with Obama

Cogito Ergo Sum: Pleasant chat? US President Barack Obama's expression does not give the impression that anything was pleasant.

In fact, he looks uncomfortable and embarrassed. PM Najib Razak, you have embarrassed the whole nation by your petulant behaviour. Obama must be questioning the Secret Service for allowing you to be near him.

SusahKes: Top 10 captions for the picture under the headline, “What's Obama thinking now?"

1. Great Scott, I played golf with this guy?

2. You're goin’ down, buddy.

3. Hillary (Clinton) ain't gonna play golf with you, that's for sure.

4. Hey, stop photo-bombing my pics.

5. And stop stalking me.

6. Do I need to get a 10-feet restraining order?

7. Don't look at me, I'm not into donations.

8. Sorry pal, "I help you, you help me" doesn't work with me.

9. Hey, this is not your table. The Mongolian table is over there yonder.

10. Yo, didn't you read the sign on your way in, ‘Please leave your Hermes bags outside’?

Ipoh Pp: A picture paints a thousand words, it is said. This picture does not show a pleasant chat. Obama looks uncomfortable and hostile to say the least. No smile at all.

Is this how 'friends' chat? Another pointer is Rosmah Mansor’s facial expression.

Negarawan: Indeed, what does Najib mean by "pleasant chat"? It is apparent from Obama's facial expression that he was not having a pleasant time. He looked stern and not a hint of smiling.

His body posture seems like he was in a hurry to walk away from Najib, not spending time chatting with him.

This is a typical modus operandi of Najib of painting a false and misleading picture, rather than the truth. It pretty much summarises his true character.

Anonymous_1419577444: It looks clear to me that Obama was walking past their table and this couple waylaid him to say some shallow pleasantries.

Obama does not look impressed, nor interested. And Obama could have been advised by his advisers and security detail to avoid the likes of Najib.

The last thing he (and Hillary) need is a picture of him and Najib splashed all over the New York Times with a headline to suggest they are chummy. It will mess up Clinton's election bid.

Mamadias: For Najib to boast about meeting someone in a dinner function, especially the president of the United States, is a sign of someone with very low self-esteem.

I thought he has been talking about foreign intervention and now he boasts about meeting a leader of a foreign country that is supposedly intervening in our domestic affairs.

Maxit: Najib, you are accorded respect and pleasantries because you are still the PM. But just like anyone of us who are utterly disgusted with you, knowing full well that you are the MO1 (Malaysian Official 1), we are sure that Obama also would feel the same.

The US State Department would have thoroughly briefed the Obama administration about you.

HaveAGreatDay: Sigh, MO1 is really clutching at straws trying to project a positive image of himself. Come on, at a state function, what's the big deal over an exchange of pleasantries?

Anonymous 2362021442199789: Did Obama say, “Hello, (US attorney-general) Loretta Lynch is looking for you.” That could be interpreted as a pleasant chat.

Bob the Builder: Najib said he had a good chat with Obama but the Malacca CM said the US wanted to “kill the Malays”? So which is which?

Mafeeah: So did you have the guts and courage to ask Obama why US is interfering with Malaysia's internal affairs?

Did you stand up to Obama and tell him to stop from messing with your administration?

Odin Tajué: Well, you wouldn’t expect an American of Obama’s stature to be rude. He isn’t a redneck much predisposed to cussing and swearing and spitting out sputum, tobacco juice and vulgar words.

Anyway, the, umm, pleasant chat might have been thus - “It's nice seeing you, Mr President!" said Ah Moi, jumping to her feet as Obama passed by. Obama stopped. “Yeah,” he said. “So how's the five-finger discountin'?"

Lost, Ah Moi said, “I beg your pardon?" A hint of a polite smile touched Obama's lips. "Uh, nuttin',” he said and turned to walk away. “I gotta run now."

OneVoice: Ha-ha-ha, read all the comments. They thought that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) was serious. Like I said, in November the fat lady will sing no more.

Loretta will be an ex-DOJ official and perhaps one of Donald Trump's people will be there. Bet on it that Trump will have his hands full with other things. Well done, Najib.

1 M Robber Hood: The face shows all. Obama may be wishing Najib the best of luck in doing gardening at Bamboo River.

Monty: And did Obama tell you not to visit the US after he steps down as president because he will not able to guarantee that you will not be detained for questioning?

Lamps: Don't worry, Najib, you are many times richer than Obama.
