Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today warned all parties against "politicising" issues related to police investigations.

He specifically referred to DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, whom he said had questioned the police's alleged inaction over army veteran Mohd Ali Baharom's reported death threat against Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah.

"Some people asked, Teo Nie Ching asked, 'why the police did not arrest Ali Tinju?' Why don't they ask, 'why police did not arrest Jeff Ooi or Maria Chin?'

"Why just ask us to arrest Ali Tinju? So I am reminding Teo Nie Ching, do not make political statements (on police work)," he told reporters after the monthly assembly at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Khalid earlier said police have initiated an investigation on Mohd Ali, better known as Ali Tinju, under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

"We are also investigating Maria Chin under Section 124C of the Penal Code for involvement in activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy through organising Bersih 5," he added.

Khalid stressed that all reports lodged would be investigated, and therefore cautioned against making accusations that the police took sides.

"I am warning Teo Nie Ching not to make statements that could create public unrest," he added.

In his monthly address, Khalid reminded police personnel to be fearless when faced with challenges in the course of carrying out their duties.

Such challenges, he said, included dealing with a segment of society whom have lost respect for the force due to “incitement by certain parties" for their personal agenda.
