Gerakan legal and human rights bureau chief Baljit Singh has proposed a formula to ensure the party's victory in future elections: field young, sexy multicultural women.

"If you want (to contest) where you will 100 percent lose, why put a candidate who is 70 years old, a Chinese man who is 70, 80 years old?

"Why not field a woman who is beautiful, sweet, energetic, sexy, and is willing to give it her all, like our Kak Azmar," Baljit told Gerakan delegates at the party's annual general assembly today.

Kak Azmar is in reference to Gerakan lifetime member Azmar Md Alias, who has been with the party since 1985.

He said these women would likely lose the first time they contest, but noted that this would prepare them for future elections, and to be Gerakan's second liners.

Baljit then laid down his winning formula: Winnable candidate equals multiracial, women, and young.

"If you can put in young girls, beliawanis, even better. The ripple effect is there," he said.

He cited as an example the Teluk Intan by-election in 2014, which then Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong won.

"They (DAP) put a young Malay girl (Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud) there.

"I saw her as a young Malay girl, I didn't see anything else," Baljit said.

He added Gerakan president Mah is indeed aware of the need to field younger candidates, but he had a lot to deal with at the moment.

Baljit, however, later clarified that his remarks were misinterpreted, and that he was referring to Azmar, who is a grandmother.

On another matter, Mah announced at a press conference earlier, that Gerakan candidates in the next elections must be vetted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Speculation is rife that elections may be held as soon as next March.

In 2013 Gerakan won only one parliamentary seat, Simpang Renggam.

Mah added a second seat to the party's tally when he won the Teluk Intan by-election by a narrow margin to the newcomer.
