Umno MP questions former ministers' 'wavering stand' on 1MDB

An MP today pointed out that two former ministers who raised questions on 1Malaysia Development Berhad in the Dewan Rakyat were individuals with a wavering stand on the government investment company.

Shahrir Abdul Samad of Johor Baru said former rural and regional development minister Mohd Shafie Apdal and former second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah had never raised objections on the 1MDB rationalisation plan when they were in the cabinet.

"The 1MDB rationalisation plan was decided upon by the cabinet and Shafie, as a minister, agreed to it. Why didn't he object to the plan then?

"I was a minister. Later, I contested as an independent candidate against the BN (Barisan Nasional). But, in my campaigns, I did not raise any of the issues which I had agreed to," he told reporters at the lobby of Parliament.

Mohd Shafie, the MP for Semporna (Sabah), questioned several government decisions on 1MDB during the debate on the 2017 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat today

Yesterday, Ahmad Husni, the MP for Tambun (Perak), also raised questions on 1MDB and urged the government to be "more efficient and transparent" in managing the national economy.

Shahrir, who is chairperson of the BN Backbenchers Club, said the former ministers must adhere to principles and not resort to being populist just because they wanted to oppose the BN.

Meanwhile, Ketereh MP Annuar Musa said Ahmad Husni and Mohd Shafie should have focused on policy shortcomings instead of questioning implementation.

He said 1MDB was essentially good but faced problems in implementation.

"Certain processes are being put in place in terms of improving implementation. The two (former ministers) should show some maturity in the matter," he said.
