PARLIAMENT Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has hit back at Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut).

This after the Segambut MP told the speaker off yesterday, saying he was appointed, not elected, and was a disgrace to Parliament.

Addressing the House, Pandikar said he was nominated as speaker by the leader of the House, and voted in by lawmakers, who were themselves elected by the people.

"I didn't come from a village and appoint myself," he said gently.

He also questioned if he was truly a disgrace simply for exercising his powers against a member of the House who had breached the rules.

"You people tell me. If I'm really a disgrace, then I got to back out because I'm a disgrace.

"But if I am to do that, all of us got to resign because all of us are a disgrace," he said.

Lim had been ejected from the House's special chambers yesterday after calling Pandikar a disgrace.

He said the two had a heated exchange after Pandikar started lecturing him on his past conduct.

Deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee earlier explained that according to the standing orders, Lim's expulsion, which was made without a time frame, meant it was a two-day suspension which would expire tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Pandikar also schooled Ngeh Khoo Ham (DAP-Beruas) who earlier asked for the speaker to be referred to the rights and privileges committee over Lim's suspension.

"This is for exercising my rights.

"I can't think anymore, either that person is not thinking right, or he is doing it purposely for provocation or some other agenda," Pandikar said.

He asked that anyone unhappy with his rulings to file a motion, and not to disrespect the position of the speaker.

"If you hate Pandikar, don't hate the speaker," he said.
