YOURSAY | ‘The by-products are what you are staring at today.’
Rafidah is sad, angry, worried and fearful over problems in M'sia
Trueglitter: Former minister Rafidah Aziz, we no doubt admire your aspirations and hope for the future well-being of our nation, but thriving on just the intangible component of hope without genuinely and tirelessly involving yourself in pursuit of justice with some of the highly regarded movements for the downtrodden minorities in the said regard may just be a fading dream.
We bemoan the fact that despite your lengthy exposures and experience as former Umno minister under the helm of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, you are stubbornly resisting to emerge from the Umno woodwork to brace your shoulder to revolve the wheel of the nation that had shamelessly been entrapped by various scandals and alleged abuse of power by the defiant and untouchable PM Najib Razak and his cronies.
The honour of the nation and respect of the rakyat need to be restored and by being only critical and remaining utterly nonchalant at the sideways in hope that the messiah will descend and redeem the deeply despaired populace would be akin to "spitting into the wind".
Anonymous 759201436321741: But Rafidah, I don't feel angry, sad or fearful for the future. It's too late now. I only feel great sorrow for the future generations to come.
You are part of greater problem, when in power all of you past leaders perpetuated the myth of the ‘ketuanan’ by creating a special class of citizens and amended the Constitution to lend credence to that myth.
The by-products are what you are staring at today, I only ask whether all of you ever regretted what you had created.
Truthfully, Dr M has fine-tuned the and amassed the arsenal of legal and constitutional weapons to enable the present leadership to carry on doing what had been practised for years under Umno hegemony. And there is no solution in sight in the foreseeable future.
Inworldnotof: Rafidah doesn't see how she's part of the big, ugly picture on a more than half a century-old canvas she helped paint.
Relative to current crop, she sees self as cleaner. She beats around bush about minorities and marauders as if she is bewildered by causes and consequences staring at her in the face.
Unless she is really stupid, or long deluded by own self-deception, what Malaysia is today is no rocket science to understand.
The short cuts and arrogance to get to the top, instant gratification through compromise with meritocracy, dispensing with equal opportunities for excellence in the name of affirmative actions, hijacking the actions to prosper kith and kin, entrenching the sense of entitlement in the psyche for decades - and now only think people are talking about you?
They are really laughing at the stupidity paraded daily in highest places that declare there is no wrongdoing when other judiciaries say there is. Largest scale ever some more. Return the APs (approved permits) for a start. Then talk.
Clever Voter: It’s very obvious the society is unequal, and many are fearful of speaking up. BN for as long as we remember has always use the religion agenda to strike fear or win favours. Rafidah was part of that regime. She obviously didn't see that coming.
The door was left opened for current team to use the Treasury as if it’s their own cash till. Agencies were controlled to perpetuate the patronage culture so that support is absolute.
BN will rule if we take Zimbabwe as a guide. Rafidah can start walk the talk by joining the opposite camp. She has friends in high places. She can start with those rent-seekers. Let’s see if this works.
Apa Ini?: Name and shame, Rafidah, and then, walk the talk. Being sad and angry isn't going to solve any problems.
The world is, indeed, laughing at us and it is important to tell the world that we, the people, deserve better than the present government we have, and together can bring the changes we seek.
Join in the march on the 19th! Make up for lost time, Rafidah.
CQ Muar: Indeed, Rafidah, apart from feeling sad, angry, fearful and worried, why don't you come out and stand by your former boss, Mahathir?
No use just feeling despondent and sit around doing nothing. That won't help to alleviate your sentiments. Do something constructive and positive by supporting the effort to save this nation from ominous doom.
That way, the rakyat who are suffering and worried like you will be grateful despite your past. Think it over, and not waste this opportunity to prove your rueful sentiments are justified.
Anonymous_1421406986: Rafidah must take equal responsibility. Who allowed or sowed the seed of race superiority during your time in office?
What you see before you is the harvest from the seeds that you have sowed under the Mahathir leadership. I do not want to blame the young generation of Malays for you have all manipulated their minds.
The Malays I grew up with were not this kind of race for they were truthful, trustworthy and caring.
Drngsc: Yes, Rafidah, you were part of the problem. All those things that you mention were there when you were in the cabinet. You help to nurture it. You also made used of them.
Now it has matured and is destroying us. Please do not appear surprised. You had a hand in nurturing all these problems that you speak about.
New Dawn: Rafidah should sit down, think deeply and analyse why are things so wrong in Malaysia. Then, she should use her intellect to try to help find solutions, and 'dirty her hands' so to speak and help the country return to sanity.
Lamenting like other powerless Malaysians will not change anything. Why not give the opposition a helping hand and speak at their ceramahs?
Rick Teo: The trouble with this country is because the leaders are always fighting for ‘bangsa’ and ‘agama’, while secretly embezzling the country's money through inflated contracts and sale commission of defence equipment.
Hplooi: Despite the vitriol of some commenters; I remember Rafidah as one of the more competent ministers.
