Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has instructed that former minister Zaid Ibrahim be summoned for an explanation over his tweet.

In a tweet, the police chief, who is currently abroad for a conference, said the former law minister’s remarks were seditious and confusing.

“Zaid has the right to express disappointment over the court decision regarding his case, but must refrain from slandering others.

“As a former law minister, he should be aware of the legal ramifications,” Khalid told Malaysiakini.

Earlier, Zaid tweeted: “Looks like if you are a crooked PM, all you have to do is appoint a crooked AG , and the court will not interfere.”

This was after the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed his application to obtain leave from the court to challenge the Attorney-General's Chambers’ decision not to charge Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

In ruling it cannot interfere, Justice Hanipah Farikullah said the plaintiff had to find other avenues.

However, a dejected Zaid later repeated the same words contained in his tweet to reporters.

The government and attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali have denied accusations of a cover up with regard to the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion cases.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has also denied abusing public funds for personal gain.

In an immediate response, the former law minister said he was unfazed and not surprised by Khalid's tweet.

"It is okay, he (Khalid) can investigate," he told Malaysiakini.

"In this country, everything is possible. You can get investigated for nothing and you can do the worst crime and get away...," he added.

Standing by his tweet, Zaid said: "I have no fear, not for the police, Najib or AG. I am ready for a long fight."
