Hadi's altered bill to cap punishment at 30 years' jail, 100 whips

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) will raise the punishment ceiling to 30 years' jail, RM100,000 fine and 100 strokes of the rotan instead of completely doing away with the punishment cap.

Hadi previously proposed in his private member's bill to amend Act 355 that the current syariah punishment cap of three years’ imprisonment, RM5,000 fine and six strokes of the rotan be abolished.

This change was confirmed by PAS' Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali today.
