Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad today trained his guns on MCA, following the latter’s attack on DAP for associating with the ex-PM.

In a scathing blog post, he asked MCA to reflect on its association with “kleptocratic” Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak before attacking the DAP-Mahathir alliance.

“MCA should not talk about principles as it is just opportunistic. It is not the MCA of Tan Cheng Lock.

“It is just an appendage of Najib’s racist Umno now,” he said.

Najib has been accused of corruption following discovery of RM2.6 billion in his account.

The attorney-general has exonerated him, saying that the money is a political donation from the Saudi royal family.

His critics claim the funds came from 1MDB, but Najib has consistently denied abusing public funds.

Working with kleptocrat is worse

Yesterday, Liow questioned DAP's moral compass, accusing the party of lacking principles and a spine for working with Mahathir.

However, Mahathir claimed MCA working with Najib, whom the former prime minister called a "kleptocrat", was worse.

He pointed out the US Department of Justice implicated a senior government official it called Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) of receiving US$731 million in misappropriated 1MDB funds.

Mahathir added that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan had confirmed that MO1 was indeed Najib.

"Of course the MCA thinks this is okay. That is the MCA's principle which it must cling to.

"It must be proud that it is supporting Najib who is involved in the world's biggest fund case as alleged by the Department of Justice," he said.

DAP is multi-racial, reiterates Dr M

Mahathir also criticised Najib for portraying the next general election as one between Umno and DAP in his speech at Umno annual general assembly last week.

"This means Najib believes in racism because to him Malaysian politics is about Malays versus Chinese.

"MCA obviously supports Najib's racist play by saying that if Umno loses to DAP, there would be a Chinese as prime minister.

"Or maybe MCA just wants to apple-polish Najib, principles be damned," he said.

Mahathir, who attended the DAP convention last weekend, insisted that DAP was a multi-racial party.

He noted that the convention was conducted wholly in the national language and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also stressed that the party did not want the prime minister position.

Mahathir added that the party supports Federal Constitution provisions on the monarchy, Malay special privileges, national language and Islam as the official religion.

"I am with DAP and the other opposition parties because I don't want to be associated with Najib and his kleptocratic government.

"For MCA everything that Najib has done is okay. So stay with him. And that means MCA has no principle.

"DAP has upheld its principle to have clean elections, to have democracy and to fight for a clean government.

"MCA is as kleptocratic as Najib," he said.
