PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed news that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has formalised working relations with Pakatan Harapan.

However, he said all the parties involved have much work ahead.

"We welcome it and it is a positive development… We have to work in identifying common ground policies (now)," he said.

Bersatu is led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was once Anwar's biggest enemy.

Initially, Pakatan Harapan comprised PKR and DAP before PAS splinter Parti Amanah Negara entered the fold.

Yesterday it was reported that Bersatu signed an agreement with the three parties in Pakatan Harapan to form an electoral pact to ensure one-on-one contests.

They formally agreed to seven agreements which was worked out in yesterday's meeting which saw senior leaders of the four parties signing them. This included establishing a joint technical committee to discuss seat allocations, a common manifesto and logo.

Despite Bersatu's agreement, some analysts pointed out that the opposition still needed PAS.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said that it had given PAS until next year to work on an electoral pact before the 14th general election.
