Students greet Mahathir with scepticism

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who clamped down on student activism when he was in power, met with student activists at a forum organised by youth group Challenger, but the former premier was greeted with scepticism.

Some students present at the forum accused Mahathir of using the student movement to further his agenda to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Mahathir also cited the ancient proverb "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" in justifying his cooperation with former rivals Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Kit Siang to take on Najib.

DAP announced a donation drive to fund student leader Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi’s legal challenge against his suspension by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for participating in the 'TangkapMO1' rally.

Crisis of confidence in FGV

Felda Global Ventures (FGV) shares slipped 4.94 percent after the Employees Providence Fund (EPF) revealed it had offloaded all of the company's shares over the year.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said while EPF can divest FGV shares, Felda settlers who have invested in the company are stuck with it and are bearing the brunt.

FGV Group president and chief executive officer Zakaria Arshad, in response to EFP’s move, said the company took cognisant of shareholders' investment priorities.

'Puan sri' activist's arrest linked to Johor sultan

A "puan sri" environmental activist was arrested by Johor police for Facebook comments on deforestation linked to the Johor sultan.

Johor police also nabbed another woman for purportedly insulting the ‘azan’ (call for prayers) in Kluang.
