A security guard was assaulted yesterday at a condominium in Green Lane, George Town for refusing to remove a tyre clamp from a car parked at the visitor's parking.

Eye-witnesses told Malaysiakini the assailant struck T Ramaraj's torso with a bolt cutter which he was using to free his Mercedes Benz.

A video of the incident showed the assailant charging towards the guard when he noticed he was being recorded.

"What else are you looking at? What are your recording?" the man is heard saying.

The security guard is heard pleading "boss, boss" before the 39 second footage ends. At the time of writing, the video clip has been viewed more than 99,000 times on Facebook.

It is learnt that the assailant refused to pay the RM100 fine to remove the clamp and returned the next day with a bolt cutter.

He also allegedly punched Ramaraj's face and threatened other security personnel against taking action against him.

'He was on a rampage'

Bystanders said Ramaraj sustained bruises on his face and was taken to hospital soon after the incident.

Pictures uploaded online also shows Ramaraj with cuts on his face.

The assailant managed to remove the clamp and drove off, said eye-witnesses. The vehicle had a single digit registration plate.

"Everyone was too scared to intervene. He was on a rampage," an eye-witness who declined to be named told Malaysiakini.

Georgetown Timur Laut district police chief Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police are investigating Ramaraj's report filed yesterday afternoon.

Rapid Security, which provides security services to the condominium said Ramaraj was only following standard operating procedures.

"We abide by the house rules," a spokesperson said when contacted.
