The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) will be investigating the death of a four-year-old child, which the family claimed was due to the hospital's lack of necessary care.
"Given the circumstances of the case, and bearing in mind the serious nature of the allegations, including an allegation of a violation of the right to life, Suhakam will investigate the claim of the family that the hospital had failed to ensure appropriate treatment of the deceased," said Suhakam chairperson Razali Ismail in a statement today.
The child Laraniya Wilbert was allegedly brought in dead at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on March 20, though the family has disputed this.
The family of the child and several NGOs presented a memorandum to Suhakam yesterday urging for them to look into this matter as well as getting CCTV recording of the child arriving at the hospital.
Laraniya's mother Prem Sri had reportedly said that her child was alive when she left her with the hospital's medical personnel.
